My darling bride Colleen had an extra beauty secret that only added to her wedding day glow up...
Her something borrowed was a wedding dress.
Why was this something special? Because these days borrowing a wedding dress means much more than it used to. Colleen had joined a growing movement of eco-conscious Bride's that are choosing to go vintage, borrowed, or consignment with their wedding clothing and decorations to have a lighter footprint and make less waste for our beautiful planet.
A share that feels close to my heart is that the commercial clothing industry is one of the leading sources of pollution, a top consumer of natural resources, and exposes its workers to numerous health and safety risks while creating millions of tons of landfill annually.
If having a "greener" wedding makes your heart sing too, Seattle has some incredible wedding consignment and vintage stores to help you look smashing in an eco-friendly way. We even have our own chic Wedding rummage sale in April with all proceeds going to Mary's Place, so you can not only flex your wedding recycle potential, but support an amazing Women's and children's charity.
Here are some of my top pics to "green" up your event...
A home for all things pretty and funky, check out Seattle's own Pretty Parlor Bridal for some amazing vintage and vintage inspired wedding attire. The parlor is at the heart of Capitol hill and offers inclusive service to one and all. You'll have fun visiting this store no matter what, but even better if you find your perfect vintage dream dress there.
Blue Sky Bridal has three lovely locations up and down the west coast, and Seattle's location is right near Greenlake, so set up an appointment, grab your besties, and go check out their selection of beautiful consignment and sample gowns at a wonderful savings.
Hope Chest is a swanky event hosted here in early April that combines a fancy wedding show vibe with a wedding related raffle, the chance to buy discounted and donated wedding decor, and enjoy delicious bites and drinks from local vendors. All proceeds go to Mary's Place charity, a wonderful Seattle institution.
Brides for a Cause hits all the bells, and is also by Greenlake. Since 2012, Brides for a Cause has collected over 32,000 wedding dresses and given away over $2,000,000 to various local and national charities across the country! By donating or purchasing your wedding dress from Brides for a Cause and help raise funds for a variety of women-focused charities. You'll need to reserve a dressing room here too, so don't forget to use their website to secure your shopping experience. They also have special occasion dresses and are running a $20 gown grab through Feb. 29th!
Enjoy your wedding shopping, and hope this gives you some great ideas of where your wedding or event gown might be waiting for you with bells on.
Best, Starr
